One of the five great ‘palace’ hotels of Paris, the Plaza Athénée was totally refurbished with considerable flair (and at fabulous expense) in 1999 and again in 2003. Rooms on the first six floors are decorated in sumptuous Louis XV and Regency style, whilst those on the 7th and 8th floors are dedicated to Art Deco. All 188 bedrooms overlook either the Avenue Montaigne, or the charming courtyard with its colourful geraniums and vines.
Accommodation
One of only two hotels in Paris with a three star Michelin restaurant (closed at weekends and in August); Alain Ducasse has moved here and early booking is essential (we will try to make a reservation for you). The hotel also has a delightful Art Deco brasserie, the Relais Plaza (closed August) and the Cour Jardin terrace restaurant offering al fresco dining in summer.
The elegant bar is now one of the most fashionable spots in Paris, whilst coffee and afternoon tea can be enjoyed in the Galerie des Gobelins. An excellent American breakfast is served in Alain Ducasse’s restaurant. Supplement for deluxe room: £54 per room per night. Hotel supplement (Mon-Thurs only to 20 Mar) £36 per room per night (winter), £112 (summer).
