Day 1 Arrive Chicago
Arrive into Chicago airport and transfer independently to your hotel. The rest of the day is at your leisure. Overnight at the Essex Inn of similar.
Day 2 Chicago
This morning at 8am you will be met by a local representative and provided with a welcome kit which includes driving instructions, vouchers and maps for your tour. Enjoy a full day to explore the Windy City. Stroll along Lake Michigan, endulge in some shopping on the Magnificent Mile or simply enjoy the stunning architecture. Overnight at the Essex Inn or similar.
Day 3 Chicago to St. Louis (300 miles)
This morning collect your rental car and begin your journey south along Route 66 as it winds out of Chicago and traverses the Illinois farmland to St. Louis, Missouri. Overnight at La Quina Inn or similar.
Day 4 St. Louis to Springfield (210 miles)
Leave the Mississippi River behind and travel along Route 66 through the scenic beauty of the Missouri Ozark region. Overnight in Springfield at the Best Western Deerfield Inn or similar.
Day 5 Springfield to Oklahoma City (310 miles)
Nowhere is Route 66 more at home than in Oklahoma, where the pavement follows the contours of the land as though it has always been there. In the dust-bowl years of the 1930s, fifteen percent of Oklahoma's population started out on Route 66 in single cars or caravans, carrying all their belongings, children, hopes and dreams with them. This section of your trip takes you through rolling countrysides once the haunt of Native Americans, later the territory of cowboys and outlaws and along part of the famous Cherokee Strip. Overnight in Oklahoma at La Quinta South or similar.
Day 6 Oklahoma City to Amarillo (260 miles)
Today you will travel through the land where the Cheyenne and Arapaho Indians lived and hunted bison then enter the Texas Panhandle, the haven of cowboys, oil-field roughnecks, and selfmade millionaires. Overnight in Amarillo at the Best Western Amarillo Inn or similar.
Day 7 Amarillo to Albuquerque (270 miles)
Before leaving Amarillo this morning, make a visit to the Cadillac Ranch where you will find ten tail-fin Cadillacs half buried in the sand. This is the land of tumbleweeds, cattle, cotton, and oil. Continue to New Mexico, driving through what once was the hunting ground of the Comanche Indians. Overnight at the Red Roof Inn Midtown or Similar.
Day 8 & 9 Albuquerque
Enjoy the sweeping views of New Mexico, The Land of Enchantment, as you take a break from your journey and make Albuquerque your home for the next two nights. One day you may take the short drive today (60 miles each way) that brings you to Santa Fe, famous for its galleries and museums, and known as the art center of the Southwest. 2 nights in Alburquerque at the Red Roof Inn Midtown or similar.
Day 10 Albuquerque to Holbrook (260 miles)
Leave Albuquerque and drive on to today's highlight, the Petrified Forest National Park, with its thousands of acres of petrified trees. Overnight in Holbrook, Arizona at the Best Western Adobe Inn or similar.
Day 11 Holbrook to Grand Canyon National Park (180 miles)
Travel through Navajo Indian Country toward the spectacular Grand Canyon National Park. A walk along the rim will provide you with unforgettable views of this stunning canyon. Overnight in the National Park at the Yavapai Lodge West or similar.
Day 12 Grand Canyon to Las Vegas (300 miles)
Today your drive takes you through Williams and on to Kingman along one of the most spectacular surviving original sections of Route 66 and on to to the Hoover Dam. Continue to Las Vegas, the glittering oasis in the desert. Overnight at the Imperial Palace Hotel or similar.
Day 13 Las Vegas
A full day to enjoy the "Entertainment Capital of the World." Overnight at the Imperial Palace or similar.
Day 14 Las Vegas to Los Angeles (290 miles)
Leave Las Vegas and journey through the Mojave Desert today, stopping at the ghost town of Calico enroute to Los Angeles and the termination of Route 66 at Santa Monica on the Pacific Ocean. Continue to your overnight hotel in Los Angeles, the Custom Hotel or similar.
Day 15 Los Angeles
With your journey complete, spend a full day at leisure in Los Angeles, the City of Angels. A short drive will take you to Hollywood and Mann's Chinese Theatre. Stroll along the exclusive shopping street of Rodeo Drive in the heart of Beverly Hills, home to the rich and famous. For a more leisurely day, relax by the ocean. Soak up the sun on the miles of sandy beaches in Santa Monica or wander along Third Street Promenade, lined with colorful shops and restaurants. The choice is yours! The world famous attraction parks of Universal Studios and Disneyland are also within easy driving distance. Overnight in Los Angeles at the Custom Hotel or similar.
Day 16 End of Tour
Spend your last morning relaxing in the California sunshine before checking out of your hotel and returning your rental car at Los Angeles International Airport and checking in for your onward flight.
Tour packages vary with prices including some sightseeing excursions, accommodation, transfers and some meals. Upgrades may be available at an additional cost.
